POTA RaDAR

I had an unexpected, though welcome, day off from work the other day. And, thought I’d use the opportunity to try for a POTA award that interested me. The RaDAR (Rapid Deployment Amateur Radio) award is available for stations moving a prescribed distance between locations, making contacts, then moving again. I initially planned to go for the “Ostrich” level award, but time constraints and one traffic jam limited me to “Cheetah”. I made 5 transitions and operated from multiple POTA entities in one Zulu day.

For these operations, I mostly used a 40M inverted vee on a Jackite mast, secured to the rim of the truck. For one park, I needed to cover the last little bit on foot. For that one, I went with the EFHW sloper. I had a blast exploring some new locations and even had to wriggle out of a few pile-ups to keep close to on schedule. To anyone that was trying to contact me when I needed to leave, I’m sorry, and I’d love to do it again and get you in the log.
